February is traditionally the month for love, and it’s when more people worry about their breath. However, we think everyone should be able to enjoy sweet breath year-round. With a little care, fresh breath should be easy to attain.
Brush and Floss Your Teeth Regularly
Good daily oral care should help you maintain fresh breath and good oral health. Plaque bacteria gradually build over tooth surfaces during the day and must be removed regularly. Otherwise, these bacteria feast on food particles trapped on and around teeth, allowing them to thrive and to produce unpleasant odours. Also, food trapped around teeth will soon begin to rot.
Drink Plenty of Water
Good hydration is essential for good breath, and without it, your body cannot manufacture enough saliva to keep your mouth moist and fresh. Sip on plain water throughout the day and especially during the warmer summer months.
Avoid Sugary Foods
Sugary foods provide the perfect fuel for plaque bacteria so are best avoided unless you can clean your teeth soon afterwards. If you fancy some chocolate, opt for dark chocolate which is lower in sugar.
Snack on Crunchy Fruits and Vegetables
These contain lots of water and fibre, which has a slight scrubbing action on teeth. Good choices include celery, apples, carrots and watermelon.
